Dear Friend,

As I meet people during the campaign, I'm frequently asked questions. Here, I have listed some of the questions I hear the most, along with my answers.

I have also included two features below which may interest you. First, I will post a "Question of the Week." Select your choice and press the "submit my vote" button. The following week, we will post the question and the vote results, along with a new question for you to vote on.

Second, I have an "Ask Moises" feature where you can send me a question. I will take the most frequently-asked questions and post them here.

Thank you!

Q: Why are you running for Assembly?

Moises: I have been deeply involved in our community, I've raised my family here, and I've lived right here in this neighborhood nearly all my life. I know our neighborhood, I know how to work as a team member, and I know how to get things done. I believe I can help to really make a difference.

Q: What experience do you have that qualifies you?

Moises: My years of experience as a community volunteer have taught me about this community and the people who live here. For twenty years, I've worked one-on-one and as part of a team to solve local problems to make things better. I know how to listen. I have testified before the legislature and know how it works. I believe I can provide a voice for our community and a fresh perspective from someone who hasn't been a politician for years.

Q: Some people speak of this as the "Hispanic Assembly District." Are you running as the "Hispanic candidate"?

Moises: I like to believe that I'm running as the best candidate. I'm an American, born and raised. I'm proud of my heritage, but I am just as proud of the years of volunteer work I've done in this neighborhood and this community. I'm running to serve all the people of Assembly 28 and of Nevada. I think I am the best qualified candidate to do that.

Q: Who is a role model for you? Why?

Moises: My mom. She only completed the 4th grade, yet she taught me the importance of education. She taught me the importance of reading through her example of always reading. I owe a lot to my mom. She taught me that no matter the circumstances, we need to be positive. She also taught me never to give up no matter what the challenge may be.

Each week we will ask a question that you can vote on. The following week, we will post the question and the responses we received. Check out past "Questions of the Week" by going to the table below.

Here is the new question for this week:

In response to the jump in electricity costs, the 2001 Nevada Legislature added a small fee onto power bills to guarantee that lower income seniors and families would have power bill assistance during the peak months when they might not be able to pay for the electricity they need. There seem to be at least two schools of thought about this. One believes a small fee to make sure people don't have to go through our hot summers without air conditioning is the right thing to do. The other believes at a time when power rates are already going up, we shouldn't add to the costs, no matter how good the motives are. What do you think?

Yes, we should keep the fee and help those in need
No, we should remove the fee and save ratepayers some money.
